across my eyes
as I am thrown to the sea
the fading howl of the crowd -
Drown !
bound in hemp
and rusted iron
I slip into the murky silence
where sunlight
has run out of breath
and the sea collapses into black
I release my life
to the kiss of a nereid
intense press of lips
freed by her touch
I rise
to the raging surface
far from the crumbling cliffs
I scream into the night
the clouds in their apocalyptic dance
brooding , swirling
intensely alone
I am a slave to instinct
I swim
beneath the thunderous waves
lashing at the horizon
I see a moonlit silhouette
a ship abandoned to time
I struggle aboard
and collapse upon its heaving decks
as the waves taunt
this weathered hulk
I gather my strength
and call toward the shadows
to only hear the empty reply
the sound of the gale
a haunting song
low pitched and undulating
I climb
to set free her sails
battle stained with blood and pain
I take helm to my destiny
at the mercy of the wind
Alive
